Corps Structure

Prior to the establishment of HQ Air Cadets as an independant unit, the post of Commandant of the ATC was held be the AOC in C, Reserve, Home and finally Flying Training Command.

HQ Air Cadets was formed 1 May 1960 within Flying Training Command and transferred to Training Command, 1 Jun 1968.

Transferred to RAF Support Command, 13 Jun 1977. Transferred to PTC, 1 Apr 1994. Renamed HQ University and Air Cadets, 10 Aug 1995. Renamed HQ Air Cadets and HQ Elementary Flying Training, 1 Apr 1996.

The appointments of Air Officer Commanding Air Cadets and Commandant ATC were split on 24 March 2003 with the former appointment passed to the Chief Executive of the Royal Air Force Training Group Defence Agency and the latter becoming Commandant Air Cadets.
