Sports

Sports is an area in which great opportunities are available to all cadets, whether youre good bad or indifferent.

The cadets from 1119 (Shrewsbury) Squadron participate in numerous amounts at various levels, gaining recognition for themselves, their Squadron, Wing, Region and the Air Training Corps.

The Air Cadets run inter-squadron, wing and regional trails for 5-a-side and 11-a side football, hockey, netball, swimming, rugby, cross country and athletics By running these trails it allows the best players to be selected to represent the wing, region or even air cadet organisation where cadets can compete at international levels,

Our squadron has been very successful over the past 12 months; with several of our cadets having represented West Mercian Wing and Wales & West region.

Sports

Athletics

Athletics is help annually in the summer season and is by far the most popular sport in the ATC. At inter-squadron levels we participate at RAF Cosfords 400m track and field, where cadets are classified in different groups according to their age.

The events participated are as follows:

Track * 100m * 200m * 400m * 800m * 1500m * 4x100m relay

Field * High jump * Long jump * Javelin * Discus * Shot putt

This year we were crowned the West Mercian Wing Athletics Champions!!!

Swimming

Swimming is the Air Training Corps most successful event winning 29annua; tri-service meetings Beating the army and Navy! Again this is a sport which all cadets can compete in, but before being put forward to represent our squadron all cadets must complete a basic swimming proficiency which requires cadets to swim a series of lengths and complete in order to complete the course.

Some events are: * Freestyle * Back stroke * Breast stroke * Butterfly * Individual medley * Medley relay * Freestyle relay

The ATC offers a chance to participate in any of the above sporting activities, we encourage all our cadets to take part and enjoy themselves! Often many cadets are surprised how good they actually are! If you have any specific questions or would like to know more about the sporting activities the Air Cadets provide, please get in touch, we would love to hear from you.
