I have been in command of 1119 (Shrewsbury) Squadron since 2011 and have the privilege of saying that 1119 Squadron is amongst the largest and most successful squadrons within West Mercian Wing ATC.
Amongst our most notable achievements is winning the West Mercian Wing Training Day, and the inter squadron athletics competition in both 2013 and 2014. We have represented not only the wing but also Wales and West Region in band and first aid. Finally, we have been named the Lees trophy representatives for West Mercian Wing in both 2014 and 2015.
2014 saw 1119s cadets fly all over the world to Australia, Canada, South Africa, Belgium, France and Gibraltar. Aswell as this we had cadets complete the Qualified Aerospace Instructors Course and cadets fly solo after completing their gliding and flying scholarships. These activities are in addition to the UK camps, Duke of Edinburgh's awards, shooting, fieldcraft and the many many other activities that our cadets experience.
I am incredibly proud of my staff and cadets, and I hope to be able to continue to contribute towards 1119's Success!
